Hell's Paradise season two is officially on the way, but we still don't have a confirmed release date yet.
The anime series was always destined to be a winner, even before its first season aired in spring 2023. It is based on Yuji Kaku's manga, which is known as one of the 'dark trio', alongside megahits Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. That combined with the fact it's produced by MAPPA, the studio behind both anime adaptations of those stories, and you've got a clear recipe for success.
While it debuted on the best streaming service for anime, Crunchyroll, season one of Hell's Paradise is now also available to watch on Netflix – so we'd anticipate a whole new audience to be joining the wait for the second season.
Hell's Paradise's story, about a series of death-row criminals travelling to a mythical island to retrieve the elixir of life with their would-be executioners, managed to deliver on its potential thanks to striking visuals and compelling characters.
But with season one behind us, what's next for Gabimaru, Sagiri and the most cursed island to grace our screens since Lost?
Will there be a Hell's Paradise season 2 and when will it come out?
Yes, Hell's Paradise season two was confirmed after the season one finale aired, but we still don't know when exactly that will be, particularly given that studio MAPPA is currently juggling several different productions.
Jujutsu Kaisen season two was released across 2023, and we're anticipating a release window for Chainsaw Man season two – which will return in movie form – imminently, if the rumours are anything to go by. There was also the hotly anticipated final chapter of Attack on Titan.
All that is to say, we don't expect news of Hell's Paradise season two until all these shows are out the door. The Anime Expo 2024 panel delivered a buffet of news on our favourite anime shows – including Blue Lock season two and Solo Leveling season two – but any updates on Hell's Paradise season two were noticeably absent, so it doesn't look like we'll be getting the show anytime in the near future. Sigh.
Who's in the Hell's Paradise season 2 cast?
Hell's Paradise is one of those "nobody is safe" shows but, judging by the state of play at the end of season one, we can roughly guess who will return in season two.
With that in mind, here are the voice actors behind some of your favourite criminal/executioner duos:
• Gabimaru – Chiaki Kobayashi (JP) / Alejandro Saab (EN)
• Sagiri – Yumiri Hanamori (JP) / Marisa Duran (EN)
• Yuzuriha – Rie Takahashi (JP) / Jill Harris (EN)
• Senta – Daiki Yamashita (JP) / Jordan Dash Cruz (EN)
• Gantetsusai Tamiya – Tetsu Inada (JP) / Phil Parsons (EN)
• Fuchi Yamada Asaemon – Aoi Ichikawa (JP) / Justin Briner (EN)
• Shion – Chikahiro Kobayashi (JP) / Reagan Murdock (EN)
• Nurugai – Makoto Koichi (JP) / Cassie Ewulu (EN)
During Jump Festa 24 in December, the team behind Hell's Paradise also announced a new cast member joining the fray. During the panel, it was revealed that Ryota Suzuki will play Yamada Asaemon Shugen, aka Sagiri's father.
What will happen in Hell's Paradise season 2?
When it comes to the plot, Hell's Paradise viewers are in a fairly unique position among anime fans given the original manga came to an end in 2021.
So, if you just can't wait to see what happens next, all the gruesome details of the story's conclusion are out there.
Without spoiling too much, Hell's Paradise season one takes viewers through roughly half of the original story up until the end of the manga's Lord Tensen Arc.
The events of the subsequent chapters, 60 to 126, mainly concern the alliance of surviving criminals and executioners invading the Hōrai palace to retrieve the Elixir of Life and escape the island.
As you can imagine, given the events of Hell's Paradise season one, things don't go as smoothly as our heroes would hope. Expect more gory tableaux, more shocking character moments, and more incredible visuals.
Speaking of visuals, Hell's Paradise's Jump Festa 24 panel also unveiled a new teaser visual for the show's second season. It doesn't reveal much (or anything at all), but hey, doesn't Gabimaru look badass?
Is there a trailer for Hell's Paradise season 2 yet?
